August 6, 1945 is the day of the Hiroshima bombing.
As the Japanese army lost one battle after another in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean, soldiers perished in great numbers. Filling the ranks required continually drafting new men. Left at home were women and children. The only males were schoolboys and elderly men.

Hiroshima was home to several military facilities, military personnel and foreign prisoners of war, all of which were in the city when it was bombed. Foreigners included Koreans, Taiwanese and Chinese whom had been brought to Japan helping to push the total population to over 350,000 people on the day of bombing.
At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, the Bomb Called "Little Boy" fell on the city. Up to 146,000 people would eventually lose their lives, half the day of the bombing. It was the first time a nuclear weapon had ever been used in war and one of only two times in history.
